We’ve Partnered with PawBoost to Help Lost Pets Get Home Faster!
We’re excited to announce our new partnership with PawBoost, the nation’s most trusted and largest lost & found pet database. With over 7 million pet lovers signed up for local alerts and over 2 million successful reunions, PawBoost gives lost pets the best chance to make it home.
Starting now, any stray pet that comes into our shelter will automatically appear on PawBoost’s Lost & Found database, reaching hundreds of thousands of potential helpers each month. This means faster reunions, fewer pets in the shelter, and more happy endings for families in our community!
If you ever lose or find a pet, visit PawBoost.com to report it and join the effort to get every lost pet home.
The Rescued Program
Castoff Pet Rescue is proud to participate in the Rescued Program at Colwell Probation Detention Center — a unique initiative designed to give both dogs and detainees a second chance.
Detainees are carefully selected for the program based on strict criteria. They must have no history of violence, demonstrate a sincere desire to change their lives, and write an essay explaining why they believe they would be a good fit. Each session lasts about three months and includes 8–10 participants.
We’re honored to share this privilege with Mountain Shelter. Together, each organization is able to send three dogs into the program per session. The dogs and their handlers live in a separate area away from the center’s general population, with access to a large indoor space and a fenced outdoor area where they spend their days together. Each dog is paired with one detainee who becomes their dedicated handler for the duration of the program.
Professional trainers visit weekly to teach the detainees how to train their dogs using positive reinforcement methods. This training not only helps prepare the dogs for adoption but also provides the detainees with new skills, confidence, and a positive routine.
The Rescued Program is truly transformative — for the dogs, the detainees, and our community. Positive reinforcement helps the dogs become more adoptable and gives the detainees a powerful tool for personal growth and rehabilitation. We’re grateful to be part of such a meaningful program that changes lives on both ends of the leash.
Pets for Patriots
Castoff Pet Rescue is proud to be a partner of Pets for Patriots, a national nonprofit organization that helps U.S. military veterans, service members, and Gold Star families adopt overlooked shelter pets. The mission is simple but powerful: save the lives of at-risk animals while providing companionship and emotional support to those who have served our country.
Pets for Patriots partners with animal shelters and veterinary clinics across the country to make pet adoption affordable and successful for military families. Through this collaboration, veterans can adopt deserving shelter pets with extra support and resources to ensure a lasting bond.
The program serves veterans from all branches of the armed forces, at all stages of their careers — from active duty to retirement. It is also open to Gold Star spouses.
Pets for Patriots focuses on “hard-to-place” animals. By adopting through this program, veterans not only gain a loyal companion but also give a second chance to a pet who might otherwise be overlooked.
